Emily
by: Me

This is an autobiography I had to write about myself for my Feature Writing class. I thought I'd start posting all of the writings I've done for school.

On May 26th, 1984, I was born in a hospital in Coos Bay, Ore. One hour later my identical twin sister Danni was born. My parents, Chris and Marsha, actually lived 30-minutes away in a town called Reedsport, but the hospital there wasn’t equipped to handle the birth of twins. Reedsport is a small town. Three years later, on February 23, my mother gave birth to my younger sister, Nikki. Three short years after that, when Danni and I were in the first grade, my parents decided to move out of our small green house in Reedsport to a big house (formerly a barn) 10 miles outside of town, near Smith River. We brought with us our three cats: Ashley, Tristan and All-Star. Later, we would add more pets to the mix. A golden retriever, Buck, three rabbits, Petey, Kiwi and Misty, and one more cat, Milo.
My sisters and I spent our time running around and getting dirty in the country, and learning how to crab for Dungeness crab and how to fly-fish in the rivers. Summers were spent with extended family in Portland, Ore. and camping all over the Pacific Northwest.
When I was 14, my dad found out that the paper mill he worked for, owned by International Paper, was going to be shut down. He was lucky enough to receive a transfer to Mobile, Ala. The summer before I started high school, my family and I moved to Fairhope, Ala., located on the Mobile Bay. Unfortunately, we had to leave all of our pets in Oregon.
We all lived happily together in Fairhope, and eventually added a cat to the family, George. He was named after hurricane George, the first hurricane our family had ever experienced. Summers were spent swimming in our pool (not something you find very often on the Oregon coast) and spending time with new friends. We stayed in Fairhope for three years until we learned that IP would be closing down the mill my dad worked for. Again, my dad was lucky enough to receive a transfer. This time it was to Courtland, Ala.
The summer before I began my last year of high school and Nikki began her first, my family and I moved to Decatur, Ala. George came with us. After making new friends and graduating from Austin High School, I spent one semester at Calhoun Community College in Decatur. I found Calhoun to be unsatisfactory and decided to transfer to the University of Alabama at Birmingham. There, I moved into an apartment and was placed with two roommates I had never met. One eventually moved out due to money issues, and was quickly replaced by another girl I did not know. My roommate’s boyfriends quickly befriended one another and almost immediately began dealing drugs out of our apartment. I found this appalling as well as unsatisfactory and decided to leave Birmingham for Auburn. This time Danni joined me. We both began attending Southern Union in Opelika. After a few unsatisfactory semesters there, the two of us transferred to Auburn University. Nikki soon followed us to Auburn. Danni and I share a house and Nikki, being the lucky youngest sister, lives in her own apartment.
I do not find my current situation unsatisfactory. Finally. I will graduate in May of 2008 with a degree in public relations. Danni and Nikki are both majoring in apparel merchandising. Danni will graduate in December of 2008 and Nikki will graduate in 2009. My parents can’t wait.
